Connection to Oracle

How do I make a connection to an Oracle (ver 8) DataBase (UNIX-server) from my Delphi pro (ver 4) application (NT)? I have created an ODBC, which did not succed to connect. (Maybe ODBC isn't the right method to make a connection?)

I have created a Oracle Net 8 service, that succed to connect to the database. I dont know how to use this with my application.

I do not have access to SQL Links because I run Delphi pro (is that right?).

Please help!

Kind Regards/ Henrik

Edited text of question.
hi swghewc question of kretzmar make sense because YOU SHOULD BE ABLE to connect.

so it means that something in what you do is missing, and so that we would be able to tell you what, you must tell us what version of delphi you are using, and what you did up to now, to install oracle server and client.

regards, Marc
An older version of the BDE can cause problems with a lot of Oracle 8 data types (specifically the LOB types), I don't know if it would go as far as to cause a failed connection, though.
Did you use Oracle Net8 easy Config yet?
You should first create a SID (make sure you can attach to it) and then that needs to be entered into the ODBC Data Source Service Name.
