Undetected LP0 after RH 6.1 Install

I have seen this problem around the news groups but thought I would try this service.  Installed RH 6.1 and now now Lp0 is detected so I cant get lpr working.  No printer was detected during the install and no port is detected during the use of printtool.  This worked fine under RH 6.0 and Caldera 2.3 but I would prefer to run to RH 6.1.

TIA

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Edit /etc/conf.modules and add the following line:

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc

reboot, and try again to add the printer under control-panel.

The 2.2.x kernel has modified the management of the parallel port. In order to correct this, edit the file /etc/conf.modules and add the following line:
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7.  Also chec the /etc/printcap file and make sure the port is referenced is lp0 and not lp1.  You should also make sure that the PnP sections of your machines bios is disabled.  Hope this helps.
