Can't login redhat 5.2

After installing redhat I rebooted, but can't login, nowhere did it ever ask me to give a localhost login name. I have a password.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

use "root" (no quotes) as your login name

do this:

1. try login as "root" and type the password you got

if that don't work it means that you forgot your "root"
password and have to do this:

reboot
when LILO: shows up, hit the TAB key
look for a word that resambles the word "linux"
type that word, then a space, then "1"

eg: -------------------------
LILO: <hit TAB>
linux dos
LILO:linux 1 <ENTER>
-----------------------------

after it finishes booting, do a "passwd root"
type in a new password

reboot

login as "root" and type your new password

hope that solves your problem
