Sound very quiet

I recently upgraded my laptop from WinX3 to Win95.  I have subsequently lost all sound on my system.  The sound/volume icon that normally sits in the bar at the bottom right-hand corner has disappeared.  I tried using a programme that requires the Installed WINDOWS 95 soundcompression (standardly installed with WIN 95) - but get no sound.
I would appreciate any help in this regard how I can re-install my sound.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To recover the ocon on your systray:

Start/Cpanel/Multimedia
On the first tab (Audio) slect the box "show ocon on taskbar" Reboot and this will now reappear.

Once in your systray double click and you will get the channel mixer to allow you to pump up the volume,
