HP deskjet 610C printer starter problems

connected teh printer correctly and pc recognises port etc. have installed cd rom software disk. printer won't acknowledge test print or anything else. first message is load paper - paper already in then press restart button and nothing happens. i then get a message saying that the printer is not responding. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling nothing. when i reboot i get a message on desktop saying someting about "hpfsched" file not found and something about win.ini and trying to delete it from that location. why is that message soming up in first place, and if i delete from win.ini system file will it not disrupt other programs etc.
please help.

Before we head too far into this, I think it would be your responsibility to set down exactly what the computer is saying, rather than leave us looking at "something about" comments.

At first blush it appears you are having communications problems with your printer. To troubleshoot this I suggest you first replace your printer cable with a known good IEEE 1284-compliant cable and see if the problems vanish.

the 610 have a problem with black cartridges so I suggest you try another black cartridge.I know you probably have a new one in but this type of cartridge seems to be failing more offten than not I had the same problem today on a 610 and have had the same problem with the last 10 610 that I have had in for repair so give it a go

The program "hpfsched.exe" is probably missing from the c:\windows directory.

The "win.ini" file attempts to load this program in the line that begins with "run =".

You can either:

1)  Unistall the HP printer driver and reinstall it again.
2) Remove "hpfsched" from the "run =" line in the "win.ini" file.  SUGGESTION: Make a copy of win.ini before making any changes to it.  That way you can go back to the original if you need to.
