MS Word 8 Tables Under Macintosh OS 8.5

Old MS Word tables have become corrupted and new tables under MS Word 8 have been behaving strangely ever since I installed OS 8.5, it appears.

Perhaps I have a virus.  If so, it isn't the macro virus, because I have macro virus protection.

The latest manifestation of the problem is that when I created a table for the landscape page setup, the table would not go beyond the margins of a portrait page setup, even though portrait was not selected, nor was custom page size selected.

Proof of the problem was evidenced when I selected Table/Cell Height and Width/Column/AutoFit.  The table was autofit to a portrait-size page, whereas the page setup was for a landscape size page.

I am an experienced MS Word user and have quite a bit of experience with tables.

Has anyone heard anything about this problem?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thanks for your reply.  I had already applied the global office updater.  Since I didn't hear from Experts Exchange right away, I called Microsoft tech support.  It turned out that my normal template was corrupted, so I had to trash it and create a new one.  The problem is now solved.
