Sendmail anti-virus procedures ?

Someone asked me whether it is possible to run a kind-of virus check on all incoming mail using sendmail or maybe rather procmail. I imagine this is probably possible, but what about the overhead (decoding any attachments). If anyone knows of any software, commercial or opensource, that does this and works with sendmail as deployed on Linux, please let me know.

Flag of Germany image

there was a script to do this in a german magazine, either c't or iX, check at:

    http://www.heise.de/ct/
Keep in mind that there are only a few virus scanners which run on UNIX, but IIRC the script was able to pass the data to another server for checks.
