"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

simply give it a name such as "mydomain".  This is best done with linuxconf.  Your machine name becomes a prefix to this domain name (this is a tcp/ip domain name not a Windows NT domain name)  Let's say you configure your domain name to be mydomain and your machines name to be pc1.  Your fully qualified name becomes pc1.mydomain
Hope this helps.
