Unable to open an initial console during bootup

After I installed Red Hat 6.0 on a Pentium II machine, it
work for a few days and suddenly it halt on the LILO stage
and show LI only. I try to boot from a boot disk, it
generate a warning: unable to open an initial console and
prompt me to enter the init= option in booting

It would appear that you have made some changes to your bios setup.  Try to disable the LBA mode, or autocinfiguration of your hard disks.  Instead, manually configure your hardrives with the settings on the drives themselves.  This should fix your problem.
