MY modem have no respond?

I have installed everything which the modem needed in my linux system.
after I enter all the information needed in the linuxconf, why the modem is still no respond to. I am sure all hardware is ok. what other configure should I enter? do I need to install the driver of my modem into the linus system.
But I have no linux version of hayes modem driver. How do I solve?

Make sure the PnP sections of your BIOS are disabled.  Also disable one of the built in COM ports.  This should be all you need...assuming that you have configured linux correctly.
