Compaq driver

Can I obtain a driver for a Compaq intergrated SCSI controller. I cannot install Linux 5.2 on my old Compaq 486 without one.

Try checking out this page:

http://www.redhat.com/mirrors/LDP/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO-9.html

It lists the SCSI controllers that work with Linux at this point.

Could you please mention which Compaq model you're referring to? This will help in locating the driver.

The machine is a Compaq Prosignia 3080 (486DX/33) with a  1.05 GB SCSI drive. The Compaq spare part# is 142039-001 and uses a SCSI assembly listed as part# 002760. I got this from the Compaq web site. If you need more info I will pop the top and exam the chips for clues.

I assume from the version number you're giving me, that you're using Red Hat. I'll check their site for more info.

It appears this board uses an unsupported chip (NCR 53C710). If I obtain a supported SCSI controller card is there a way to disable the on board SCSI controller?
