Textarea in Netscape Composer Problem

I have this code in an HTML page in Netscape Composer 4.7.

<FORM>
<TEXTAREA ROWS=10 COL=14>
TEST FOR THE AMOUNT OF ROOM FOR THE TABLE
</TEXTAREA>
</FORM>

But no matter what I change the value of Columns to, it never gets any larger than 20. The rows changes however.

Maybe your page is cached locally.  Have you tried changing the value and hitting reload while holding down the shift key (forces a reload while ignoring the cache)

Also, surround your values with quotes:
<FORM>
<TEXTAREA ROWS="10" COL="14">
TEST FOR THE AMOUNT OF ROOM FOR THE TABLE
</TEXTAREA>
</FORM>

In your text example you say:

"TEST FOR THE AMOUNT OF ROOM FOR THE TABLE"

Is this form inside a table?  If that's the case, you probably need to make adjustments to the table, not the text area.

that's because it is supposed to be "cols" not col.
also make sure that the textarea is inside a form
