TCP/IP Corrupt?
I was using a Mac G3 with OS 8.6. For some unknown reason I can no longer access the internet - nothing was changed from the previous working date. Are files corrupt? The only way to resolve this is a clean install of the system - any simpler ways of resolving. I use another G3 on the same network and its fine.
Who did you connect to ethernet. Via a router, via ppp. Which ppp? Use the Apple System Profiler to check your network settings.

I connect to the internet via a @home cabel modem (really a router) networked through a 4 port 10BT hub. TCP/IP has been set correctly and the same setting work fine on another computer (the only change being the IP address). I can see that computer on the network.
Are the settings displayed in the System Profiler. What are your IP-Addresses. (check carefully your umask and gateway entries even I think you have done this already). Can you access the interent via ip-numbers? Change the position of the RJ-45 cable in the hub.
If all of them won^t work I think you must do a clean install of your system.

Throw away these 2;
1. MACTCP DNR
2. TCP/IP Preferences
Restart..manualy input your settings. This should work. If not let me know.

Sorry, I really thought throwing the files out would work, but it did not. I have confirmed the cables work. I took another Mac and installed with the same configuration and it worked. Here are current set-ups:

Did the cable company issue you with a set of IP addresses? What is the set-up on the mac that works? I can't work out quite how the cable company are dividing that ubnet up...
