proxy and mail

I have a NT Server with MS Proxy server installed. Right now, my users have access to the internet but the mail will not work. The smtp and pop3 servers cannot be found by the e-mail programs. From the server, I can ping the internet mail servers, but not from the stations. What setting do I have to change on the proxy to fix the problem?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to make sure that the users have the Microsoft Proxy Client installed.  Then in your browser and mail clients, uncheck the "use proxy".  Then set them as if they had a direct connection to the internet.

This should work.
