What does ! means in BASIC

What does the symbol exclamation (!) means in BASIC?
For example, in the statement
                  DSM = DSM + 360!

How do I convert the above statement into Visual Basic?

! is the type-declaration character for the SINGLE data type
It means that the variable preceding the ! will be type-casted to a single.

Shortcuts for declaration of strings

$ = String
% = Integer
& = Long
! = Single
# = Double
@ = Currency
(Nothing) = Variant

Dim Art$  is the same as Dim Art As String
dim Art is the same as Dim Art As Variant

etc.

if multiple use multiple lines
Dim Art$
Dim Many%
Dim LingerNUm&
