I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Its Pixars own rendering engine. It renders 3d animations and models with unbelievable realism. Bugs Life was rendered with it and i believe Toy Story also used it.

good weed.... !!! you're rite... but i'm wondering... what 3D tools are used to model those bugs, toys, backgrounds... except for the rendering engine itself ???
Pixar uses several tools. Im not sure what they use for which parts but their platforms are Mac and SGI so the choices become a bit more limited. Probably Lightwave, Alias Wavefront, and if i recall they also have their own modeler which i dont think is commercially available.
