Changing computers

I am about to change my computer and I would be grateful if somebody would advise me on how I can transfer my data from one machine to the other. In my present PC all the data is on one hard drive which does not have the operating system. Can I just transfer the drive to the new computer or do I have to electronically transfer the data?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Many ways!

1.) Plug in your old HD as second HD in your new computer.
2.) If both have a network card you can transfer it via the net.
3.) Use any external media (CD-burner, JAZZ, ZIP, ...)

Are you saying option one is as easy as you describe it and that it is fool proof? I hope so.
