Cloning

Currently have an 8GB drive and want to clone it to a 13GB drive.  Tried using both Diskclone and Ghost 5.1.
The problem is the drive is a dynamic disk.  It cannot be reverted back to a basic disk until the data is removed.  So the cloning software doesn't recognise the data properly.  It still clones the whole drive but when 2000 boots I get a blue screen error saying there is something wrong the boot device.
Does anyone know a way around this or know of a tool that can clone 2000 dynamic disks?

Hiya !

This is a though one but lets see.
First of all...a dynamic disc is not suited for cloning. I have used Ghost many a time and it works great for me. Cloning left and right. But in your case I would suggest you take another aproach before you get grey hair.

Ok, lets try this out.
Do a registry dump of your machine.
Then use a network to transfer all your files and folders to another machine.
Then install the operating system on your new drive. Finally you restore the registry with the dump you made.

I wont rule out that it's completely impossible to ghost your dynamic disc ecause there might be some ways.

Try these...

1. Try to use FDisc and make the boot partition 8GB or smaller.

2. Look on the developers sites for new updated drivers.

3. Look on the site for cloning programs that perhaps can adapt to your type of problem.

Good luck

...I forgott to tell you that you ofcourse need to transfer back the files and folders over the network aswell when you are done with installing the os and before you update the registry and a note to this is that you naturally need to have the same ifrastructure so that all the files and folders are on the same place on the new drive that it was on the old.

Just need a solution to be able to clone dynamic disks.  Escpecially if customers machines come in for hard drive upgrades.  I guess we just have to wait for the programmers to create something hey?  Anything is possible.
