Database views in a Framed Homepage

I am creating a homepage with 3 frames (The top frame is the header, the lower left is where links etc are and the lower right is the display page.  The new databasewas created using the Web Pages(R4.6) template.  I would like to have the lower left frame display views from two databases when the homepage is first displayed. Links to other locations are also to be displayed. I could easily create links to the databases, but want the views to be displayed in the left frame (which acts as a sort of Navigator) as soon as the homepage is displayed

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

create a form and call it "$$ViewTemplate for viewname" in place of 'viewname' put in the the alias name of the view, or just its name.  Then create a field in the form called "$$ViewBody" and give in the default value the name of the view (try first not put a value, I heard on some editions of notes it works). On this form u can create the links and all the text u want to show, the place where u put the field it will display the view (like an embedded view, u can do this easily in R5)...then all u need to do is display the form in that frame.

1.0 There will usually be a delay between me receiving your reply/solution because I communicate from work, but the Lotus standalone is at home so I can only try out your solutions when I get home.
2.0  As I ahve already mentioned, I am creating the homepage using the Web Pages(R4.6) template, when I create a view, I am given the choice of *allpages, Home Page or (pages) and I am not sure which one to use.
3.0 When I create a form with the graphic and name field, they are created ok, but in the All Pages listing, they are listed -- without a name, but each with the same Relative URL (/C:\notes\data\Homepage.nsf/pages/

Do you have anything for me or shall I close this one.  I would have liked a few words about the "*allpages, Home Page or (pages)" and the "but each with the same Relative URL" if at all possible.  All help is greatly appreciated.

HTML5 and CSS3 Fundamentals

Build a website from the ground up by first learning the fundamentals of HTML5 and CSS3, the two popular programming languages used to present content online. HTML deals with fonts, colors, graphics, and hyperlinks, while CSS describes how HTML elements are to be displayed.

ok I will look into this, I used this template before I didnt face this problem...I think u should give the page a name (when u create a new page with the button I think, there is space in the top to give the page a name).  I'm currently at home I will check at work tomorrow.

I checked the template, in the box on top there is: "Enter a page name for the URL:" when u edit a page created with the template, u should in the box give in a name, and then the url will be different.  But I think that u cant save the doc anyway if u didnt supply the name.

also I think u r confused a little, u dont create a view with the template, the 'all pages' and 'home page' u mention in point 2, are just views used in the template itself to displat related docs. and for creating the pages, u dont create a form, u should click on the buttons, one entitled "New Page" and the other "New Page Using HTML"

I will work on your suggestions tonight but, because i will be out of the office tomorrow, i wont be able to reply until saturday.  The forms created thru  "New Page" and the other "New Page Using HTML" do not allow fields to be entered though.  I tried a couple of days ago to use them, but although i could create pages with graphics or links, I could not get them to work in the frame set.  this is more difficult than I thought, so i will increase the points

if u want to use frames u should use the frames template, I dont remember the name of the template, but look for it through the list of databases.

the template name is (framew46.ntf)...create a db from this template.
if u can use R5, its pretty straight forward to use frames.

ghassan99Commented:
u should use this instead of the Web Pages u r currently using, its the same thing, but with frames support

That's better.  I will revert to that, but I want to finish this off for experience.  I presume that creating a $$ViewTemplate for viewname will not be of much use the Web Pages template.  In fact I have tried and could not do very much with it.

I did create a document with a link to another database, and tried to use that to display that database's views in the homepage database, is that a possibilty?

yes it is possible! u can specify in the url something like:
http://mydomain.com/db.nsf/test?openview

check in the help for all the available web commands that comes after the '?'
