Limits of a TImage component

I am using a TImage component in my Delphi 1 application running on under Windows 98 and with a Pentium III 450 with 8mb video card.

Some images that I display will generate a run time error "Out of system resources".  I can display a 447x298 size image at 24-bit color depth just fine, but displaying a 545x411 size image at 24-bits will generate the error.

If I convert the 545x411 images to 256 colors, then the error will not occur.

What is going on here, and is there some way to know what the image limits are with a TImage?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think the limitations are done by 16bit...
