McAfee Vshield disables automatically

I am running McAfee Viruscan 4.0.3a (4040+ DAT) on Windows95. Each time when I start my PC, Vshield (Vshwin32.exe) is supposed to be active. But somehow it's disabled. I have to manually right-click on the shield icon, enable system scan again.
After a few days, it is disabled again!
I've tried reinstalling. I've checked the Registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
where Vshwin32.exe was no longer there after it has been disabled.
So can anyone explain why Vshield disables by itself? Or give a good remedy? Thanks in advance!

I've had the same thing happen, although I'm running an earlier version of McAfee on Win95.  It doesn't always happen and I,m not sure it is actually disabled. It appears it may be loading the wrong icon in the system tray. To get the correct icon I have to disable it and re-enable it manually. I have just assumed this to be a quirk of the software, but I don't know for sure.
Check your default.vsh file in the directory that you installed mcafee in.  Look for bEnable=1 or bEnable=0.  My guess is that somehow you've changed this file so that bEable=0 for the [General] section of this config file.
Are you looking for an update on boot?  If so, this could be disabeling Vshield.

I appreciate your help. Thanks. But the problem is still there. I need more clarification.

dragonlord,
default.vsh comes out to be a bunch of codes. The only readable lines are:
[AVCONFILE]
AVCONFILE=C:\PROGRAM FILES\NETWORK ASSOCIATES\MCAFEE VIRUSSCAN\avconsol.ini
SECTION=item_0

does this sound normal?

jason_s,
Yes, I do auto update at every bootup. But if no DAT files are to be found, the Vshield should still run. (Vshield should be enabled even before autoupdates).

if your default.vsh file is trashed, that would cause several different problems.  If you want, I can post mine and you can take a look at it.  TTFN!
Try shutting off the update at boot, and see if that helps. (just for testing purposes)

hi dragonlord. appreciate if you show me your default.vsh. thanks
hi jason_s. i've tried that. it's the same.
If you uninstall, then reinstall McAfee (and do not run the update) does Vshield run OK?

Jason, i've tried that. It did not help.

Can anyone else help on this please? Viruses have been circulating. it's really bad.
Here is my default.vsh file.  I'm sorry, I though I'd posted this, but, I guess that I didn't.  Hope this helps.  TTFN!

it looks like some of my example didn't paste in as I expected ;)  If between the proposed answer and my example, you can't get it to work, I'll email you my default file ;)  TTFN!
