HSP 33.6 Fax Modem

Was achieving faster speeds (33 plus) now I'm Lucky if I can hook up at 28. Re-loaded software, changed access numbers, call Aol tech support. They informed me to get on line and check  for upgradable software. I will be converting to DSL soon, need to get a quick fix now. Where can I find driver software that will solve issues?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can not tell, disk and instruction bocklet do not say anything other than HSP Fax Modem. Modem came with computer that was built by a freind. I belive he picked it up at a show. AOL reconizes it as a PCTEL generic if that helps. Modem instruction booklet instructs to connect as Hayes compatable V2.5 (default).

thanks . . . bug's

Is there any numbers on the modem itself, in particular an FCC ID.

I had this exact issue,  it was a real pain...( as you know )...try this website   http://www.pctel.com/whomademymodem.htm   this should help to determine who has drivers for this modem....I only noticed slight increases in performance ,  but was glad to get that !........after installing the latest driver,if you still dont see any improvement...try other  things  like  is your phone line damaged from the wall to the PC..(  pets, kids can chew  etc. ) have  you noticed any crackling on the line during normal voice usage?...this can   also  contribute to lower connection speeds...( it is the phone company's responsibility )
......but  more importantly,....when  is your ADSL service coming? because as you're probly suspecting...HSP modems  are only slightly better than nothing....DSL is not available in my area and I was rced to buy a good hardware based modem  to get  online reliably and faster....I now  dont  connect  at  less than  45,333 bps....the best  the HSP  ever did  ( when it connected ) was  31,200.....

hope this helps
