MID files .... wheres the sound? help! :)

Hey all!
I got a problem here and it is with my MID playing. When I click on a MID file it will come up and start to run, as if sound was being played. Only thing there is no sound! But if I was to play a WAV file I would here the sound, and other sound files I hear, but not the MID files when they are being played.

So to make it plain on what I am asking, I need help to get the sound back for these files, I have no clue how to do this. The file will "run" but no sound would be played.

Thank You very much in advance.

Hi Pete,

First of all, make sure your soundcard supports midi. Also, make sure your soundcards midi files are installed.

Before that, you might want to check the obvious. Double click the little trumpet in the right hand bottom corner of the screen, just to the left of the clock.

Check if the midi is not muted and that the volume is not set to nothing either.

Hey,
well the sound I checked and it is not muted. Also The sound card would have to play MIDI files since it at one time played them. I only installed a voodoo2 (blackmagic) card. I don't think that would change it any way. Would it? But it kinda all of a sudden turned off. Also that I am not the only user on this computer its hard for me to tell how it got shut off.
I appreciate your trying to help me, Thanks, If anyone else has ideas on to fix this it would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Pete
Check Device Manager for conflicts.  If your new card conflicts with your sound card, it might disable part (but not all) of the "devices" in the sound card.

To see Device manager, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/System and click on the "Device Manager" tab.  Let us know if you see any yellow exclamation points (!)

No there is no (!) I looked and did not see that before hand, and i ust did again. It is really strange I do not know what the problem could be.
Thanks, hope you can help me

Does your Control Panel/Multimedia even show a midi device installed?
Yes it does have a MIDI tab. When i click on the tab the two devices that show up are "FX-3D FM MIDI"  and betneth that is "MIDI for AOpen FX-3D MPU-401 Compatible". I tried both still nothing works. i hope this helps some of you computer wizes to help me out :)
Thanks
Pete

Pete
What kind of computer do you have?
I used a Packerd Bell once and it didn't play midi until I clicked on the internet radio program that came with the system.
Don't ask me why all I know is it worked, maybe you have something similar.
Hey there!
Yes i got the same computer, a Packard Bell. If you can tell me where I may find this program that would be most helpful. I tried searching in find files but no luck to a name of that sort.
Thanks a lot
Pete
I don't remember but it was in the programs menu, look in each folder for something called internet radio.

If I find out more I will post it.
all right well i looked in every folder and did not find t. Is this file that maybe you can upload to me or find on the internet? If so that is always a option t try later.
Thanks
Pete
I think it came with the system, if you uninstalled anything related to Packard Bell stuff that might have been with it.
Are you using the sound card that came with the system?
Is it attached to the motherboard (the one I used did)
If both are right you might have bumped the cable to the motherboard when you installed your voodoo2, check that plug and the output jack to your speakers.
If this still does not help I might use the Packard Bell sometime soon so I will post a message if I find anything.
I couldn't find anything.
But try this:

Right click on My Computer
Select Properties
Select Device Manager Tab
Expand the Sound, video and games controllers section
Remove all entries from there
Don't restart you windows
Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel
Add New Hardware
When prompted for auto detect say no From the list go down to sound, video and game controllers
When prompted to select a device, make it go to your floppy or CD (where you have the sound card drivers)
Select your sound card
Restart your system

Let me know if this helped.
