ftp user should not change directory

I'm a linux newbie.
I'm only my own admin. But I'm playing with userrights to learn more about it.
Here is my question:
How to prevent a ftp users from changing to root directory?
the user should only login into his directory including the subdirs.

thanks in advance

The "normal" ftp daemon doesnt support this. get another one, there are several good ones (glftpd, ncftpd, proftpd, neroftpd) most of them support this feature. But note that the user DOES need read access to other dirs for the ftpd to work.

Are you sure normal ftpd (e.g. wuftpd) doesn't support this feature ?

Anyway I tried proftpd (DefaultRoot ~) - works fine !
