Compaq Prolinea 4/50

Are Compaq motherboards replaceable?  They were giving old computers away at work.  Can this be upgraded with new components?  Is it a doorstop?  I would like to be able to extend its life for a student.

Thanks.

The Prolinea 4/50 can be upgraded to 586/133 with Evergreens
Upgrade Cpu at:
http://www.evertech.com

Your Prolinea 4/50 uses 72 Pin FULL PARITY MEMORY in
2X36,  4X36, etc. (4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB FULL PARITY)
70ns only.

The Hard Disk size can be increased up to 2.1GB.

In answer to your question: "Are Compaq Motherboards
replaceable?"

The answer is NO for any easy replacement , as they are
proprietary boards, but can be replaced with a lot of
cutting, hacksawing and drilling.

If you can get this complete Computer for FREE, it will
still cost you to make it into an Evergreen 586/133, plus
adding memory and a 2.1GB Hard Drive.

If you need further info post here as I have the manual for
this Prolinea.

Thank you for the prompt response.  I did get this free and do not mind spending some money to get it to work.  The educational aspect has some value for me.  If satwa has more information, please let me know.

Thank you.
