Upgrading my 4.6 server to R5
Hi,
I have my server running 4.6.2a. I want to upgrade to R5. Also I have to move this server in a new machine and then Upgrade. Now Iam using cascading address books. This server also runs ftp. what steps should I follow for a smooth upgradation to R5. What are the precautions I have to take. I have done upgradation to 4.5 to 4.6.In this case I just copied the notes program and data directory in the respective place in the new machine and ran the 4.6 server cd rom after taking back up of notes.ini, desktop.dsk and other id files and important databases.
But R5 is new to me.

u want to copy the notes directory to a new machine! I dont think it will work u have to install notes first...
Enterprise server is big product for big organization that have clustering capabilities, dynamic load balancing, server balancing, etc. Application server should be enough, but I dont think it will have the failover capabilities.

Hi Ghassan,
I moved the notes program directory and
Data directory to the new box and installed R5. It did a upgrade. So no problem. I then ran Load Design in the server console.
Thanks for your help

Just in case you didn't know, expect to have problems with the calendar & scheduling capabilities between R5 and R4 clients -- specifically having to do with repeating invitations. R5.0.3 should fix that, but this new release is not yet out (a few weeks, I hear).
Be sure you are running the latest Notes - at this writing, it is 5.0.2b -- there are MANY IMPROVEMENTS on each of the products and you want to be sure to get this version. When version 5.0.3 comes out, you'll DEFINATELY want to upgrade your clients!!!!!

Is it ok if i just copy the notes progam folder and notes data folder to the new machine and install R5 specifying the path of the above mentioned notes folders. What is Domino enterpirse server. Whether I have to choose this to install both mailing and application features. Does this also support a backup server in tha same box if the server is having any problem
