ne2000 compatable network card

Am installing dual boot on a networked PC that runs windows normally.
The installed RedHat6.1 works a dream... all except networking.
It keeps falling down on the network card, no matter how I recompile my kernel, the eth0 always fails to initialise.
How do I solve this solution with my current hardware setup?
Detailed explanations would be needed.

Many thanks.

Check your /etc/conf.modules

Make sure that something like:

alias eth0 ne
options ne io=0x300 irq=11

You do need to change the I/O and IRQ if they are different than the one set to your card.

Needless to say it has an ne2000 compatable network card...
Is the network being detected at all? You can use dmesg | more to browse the bootup messages. The ethernet HOWTO has information about problematic ne2000 cards and info about pci ne2000 cards. If the card is loading, try using ifconfig to set up the network manually. When that works, add the information to your startup files
