Changing Icons

I'm using Windows 98 and on my desktop I have several folders that I would like to change to Icons. When I right click on the folder and select properties, there isn't any choice for picking an icon in place of the folder that is now there. How do I replace the folder with an icon?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For an absolutely free and easy application, go to www.zdnet.com/swlib/utilities/system_utilities.  Search for "Folders" and download the app called PCMagazineFolders.  This 573KB app will put a line in your right click context menu allowing you to browse and  replace any plain manila folder with an icon of your choice.  For it to work, you have to have IE4.

Dear SlimJim

When I try to go to www.zdnet.com/swlib/utilities/system_utilities
I get Page not found. It sounds like a good program. Also I have IE 5.0 will that be okay instead of IE 4.0. What do you mean by an Active Desktop? Do I have to have IE running in order to change the icons with this program?

Sorry, dimpledr.  At the end of the URL add   .html so that it reads /system_utilities.html.  It will work.  I just did it.  Slimjim.
