fax/computer share phone line

With fax and computer sharing one telephone line, what can I do to have and incoming fax call knock me off-line?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You must use a "special" modem that alert you when there's incoming call.
I hear that GVC 56K Ext. or Zoom 56K has this feature.
Check with your telephone company if they have Call Waiting option. That way, your line is never engaged, so it will ring, which 'confuses' your modem and forces it to drop the line.
Personally, I would recommend the many Internet fax services that exist. JFAX, Callwave, Efax, all offer free incoming fax service that drops the fax into your e-mailbox. Voice messages, too.

The URL's are: www.jfax.com, www.callwave.com, www.efax.com

By far, I've found that approach the easiest, and least expensive.
