Configuring PPP

I have a tecra 8000 laptop and I cannot get my modem installed, its an internal modem on com 2 but when I run the detect modem utility it won't find it. I am running mandrake 6.5. How do I get ppp installed to be able to dial up?

You might want to check the BIOS to see what the COM setting is.
It is VERY likely that the modem in your laptop is a winmodem (i.e. no dedicated UART).  That modem will not run under linux.  It is designed for windows based systems only.  you should get a pcmcia modem, which is not listed as a winmodem.
