I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Powerquest (the creator of Partition Magic) makes an excellent program called Drive Copy which sells for much less than half of what Ghost does. It doesn't have the full functionality of Ghost, but if all you want to do is clone a hard drive, it will definitely do that. List price is US$29, but I've seen it for close to US$20. I've never had a problem using it.

I need a solution that can copy ext2 partitions, but not bit copies, but content copy, so the HDs does't have to be have the same size, but te new HD has to have the enough free space.

Both Ghost and Drive Copy will do what you are looking for. Both are good products. If this is all you need the product to do, then I suggest you purchase Drive Copy because it is significantly cheaper than Ghost. Drive Copy has a fuller-featured big brother called Drive Image that is intended to compete with Ghost for those who want more than this.

Ghost is the way to go, not just for the disk cloning, but imaging out, can do selective partition cloning, dynamic partition arranging through gdisk and many other tools.  I work in a regional based computer assembler and thats what we use, I also worked with a school system that used it across the system, 1000+ pcs. Great deployment tool.

As I've said many times, GHOST AND DRIVE IMAGE DON'T WORK PERIOD!
