"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

We tested an ERREPI HTX 2000 UPS last month, and that UPS came with a german made software called GENEREX or something like this. This software is able to be installed in lots of Operating Systems (Win95/98, WinNT, Linux, different types of UNIX, Novell, etc...).
This software also includes two licences of a program that allows to shutdown other machines (from the computer which controls the UPS), independently of the operating system that is running there (it uses a port to send the signal, and the listerer gets it).

You can try this software, but licences have a cost, of course. I don't know how expensive they are, but there come two free licences with the UPS Management Software.
I searched internet for that German company with no results. You should contact Errepi and ask them for the software they give with their hardware.

Good luck.
