WHAT IS a CMOS Checksum error?

Recently I turned on my home PC and got an error message saying 'CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded'.  What is this error message and how do I resolve it?  Thanks

Usally when you get this, your battery on the MB is going dead on you causing you to lose your CMOS setup. Did you also lose the time?

I am looking in my PC right now and what does the actual CMOS battery look like?  There are two batteries, one of them is silver and look like a watch batter(circular).  The other is sqaure, pretty big, white and says lithium on it.  Which is the CMOS battery?  Thanks
