degree importance

I am a college student at University of California at Santa Cruz.
I am interested in doing computer art and graphic design as a future career.  UCSC only offers a fine arts degree not a graphic arts one...

Do you think a fine arts degree will be as viable to the business as others?

Would it be worth transfering?... if i stay here i still plan to take computer art classes and learn html etc and do an internship.

I was a graphic design major at the Academy of Art College. Currently im in the process of transferring to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. From the advice of the friends i have that have graduated from it just the mention of that school and their graduation from it will get them a job. The fine arts degree isnt going to get you that same prestige among the upper class design departments. You need that design experience before entering the field. So i would say skip the fine arts degree, go with the graphic art/design degree. As far as which school theres always the Academy of Art in San Fran but its lacking in knowledgeable. Theres UCSC but it doesnt have the prestige that Art Center does. There are several others in the LA area that companies love to hear you graduated from but their names escape me at the moment.
