I can't Install Gravis GamePad Pro

I know it's old... but I have a Gravis GamePad Pro, which is good enough for me.  I have it installed on my computer at home, but I have recently moved to college and bought a new computer.  I am trying to install the Gravis controller (version 2.10), but I am having problems.  Does anybody know what's wrong?  I install using the 2 disks and then I restart my computer.  When the computer reboots, I see the Gravis Control Center in my taskbar, and it says that there is no GamePad installed -- check the Control Panel.  So when I click "Gravis Joystick Applet" in the Control Panel, it gives me two error messages.  First -- "No Valid Joystick Driver Installed", then --"Registry Error"...

I tried a couple different things, but it didn't work.  I just bought the computer this summer, so it has Windows 98.  64MB RAM, 11 GB Hard Drive.  Compaq Presario 5714.  Keep in mind that I also have a Compaq Presario (from 1994, 9000 series) back home, where the controller works.

I also tried to install this on a Compaq machine and ended up having to call technical support. I spoke with 2 different technicians to make sure and they both said the sound card in that Compaq doesn't support it. Here's the kicker, I tried installing a MS Sidewinder as well...to no avail. Aren't these supposed to be home computers? Don't you play games @ home? My advice is to go buy a SB16 or something. That's what I did.

Check to see, I bet you have 2 different sound cards in your computers.

Sounds like a good answer, but I'm going to try and see, if others have more practical ones (other than buying new hardware).  If nothing comes up, re-answer, and I'll give you the credit.
I'm not quite sure, but it might be something with windows 98. I had the same problem, only with an older driver version. I'll have to check at home to see how I fixed it there. When I know, I'll just add another comment.

Arjan.
You might want to try and download a newer version of your driver. At their website (http://www.gravis.com/support/software_updates.html) , you can download version 4.01 of the gravis experience drivers. If I'm not mistaken, those will work correctly up to and including directx 6. At their site they state that there may be compatibility problems with directx 7.

Nope.  I already tried that.  I've tried installing just the gravis Xperience, and both the disks and the Xperience... still doesn't work.  When I install just the Gravis Xperience, my Control Panel says "Game Pad Pro ---  Not Connected"
Ah.  I figured it out.  I forgot to click to the GRiP button on the back of my controller.  Even though I already checked the site and installed Xperience.  I'll give you the points, because you made me re-install it, then I figured out the problem.  So I guess I owe it to you.
