Lotus Notes vs Exchange

Our Organisation is planning to migrating to MS Exchange from Lotus Notes.. (Mainly because of the License and Costing issues..!).. But we would like to know the key issues like difficulties/limitations in administrating the Exchange server...

Please give me your suggestions so that I'll prepare a report on this and submit to the management to avoid the Message only server (Exchange) to enter in to our Organization.

P.S: We have 2 Domino servers,  There are about 1000 Lotus Notes users in our Organisation with only one Lotus Notes Admin and one Developer cum admin, over 20 Lotus Notes Applications.

Exchange person during the demo said, they have tools to migrate Lotus Applications to Exchange.. But we don't know whether it is possible or not...!

Expecting your suggestions soon,

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Please do not refer any web sites like Lotus or Exchange or some common sites techweb etc., we've already got bulk information from the above sites..

We are expecting the suggestions from the experienced administrators (with Notes and exchange knowledge)

I cant see how they can convert a notes application to a exchange application.

exchange isnt built on the same technology as notes. active directory is the only thing that microsoft have done, that resembles the structure of notes.

we have a set of applications that run on notes. this is sold throughout our country. people often ask if theese are available on MS platform. and we have just developed these.

to get nearly the same functions we have these MS applications running on the server:

Site server
SQL server
exchange server

Site server to take care of the personalisation and membership issues, exchange to hold the templates for our outlook 2000 clients. and sql server to hold the data.

if you ask me , their are NO tools that can convert a notes application to an exchange application. or we wouldnt have used over 10 developers to get 10% of our lotus applications over to MS platform !

It would be a biggest mistake if you switch from Notes to Exchange. don't do this because I have experienced it an year before. Year ago I shifted from exchange to notes I still have expertise in exchange server but exchange server itself forced me to move towards notes, from the day I installed Domino I never face any kind issue like server crash security problems + alot more.

For your information we are using Netfinity 5000 Servers for Domino, same were being used for MS Exchange
