How to make background Transparent

I have Open a new File with the contents option as Transparent. Then draw a image and Type ( two layers ). Now once when I flatten the image the background turns white, I want to keep the final image transparent and save it as JPEG. How to do that

The only way to do what you want with a JPEG is to fill the background of the picture with the same color or pattern you have on the web page and it will blend in...no other way unless you use a gif and that is too large a file size

JPEG cannot preserve background transparency so what you want to do is impossible. You would have to save it as a GIF and in the process of saving as GIF choose your white space as the transparency.

How large is too large for the file size?  How large is the image in pixels?  Is this a photographic image or an illustration/graphic?  What version of Photoshop are you using?  Do you have access to ImageReady?  Excellent for reducing files sizes for web purposes.  How are you saving your JPGs (compression) and how are you saving your GIFs (color palette and # of colors, etc.)?

What type of background is your image going to sit on?  If it is a flat color as Patwallace suggested use that color for the backgound.  If your background is another image or texture, I would build the whole web page in Photoshop crop it into necessary sections, then bring in the pieces into web page.  Are you using an HTML editor program or doing HTML by hand?

I have had dificulties in the past trying to match background colors w/ jpgs.  The colors tend to change when saving as jpg.  What I suggest is make a tiny, 2x2 pixel square fill w/ color u want for background then save as jpg.  Use this image as background image.  Then the color in background of your web page will match the color in the background of your image.
