Bound DBGrid control and bookmarks

I am trying to reposition a bound DB grid to show a specific record based on the value contained in a textbox.
The firstrow method requires the assignment of a bookmark, and I can't seem to find a clear definition of a bookmark.  Is it defined by the system, or the program?  Is it a string field, a variant field or a number?  Can someone give me a good explanation of how to use bookmarks in a bound DB grid program?  Thanks in advance, Jim.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just use the find/move methods of the recordset to which the dbgrid is bound to. DBGrid will change its position accordingly.

for eg. :

'if DBGrid is bound to a data control then :

data1.recordset.findfirst "fld1=criteria"
