Windows 98 gunsight mouse

On windows 98 the mouse pointer changes to circle with + in it.
2-3 seconds wait and a click it restores.
I've been asked about this and while I don't know from the description given I know where the answer can be found ...hence!

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try this,

start, settings, control panel, mouse, pointers. Set scheme to "none" and see if the problem goes away.

Someone may have played a little practical joke on you...

sounds like someone changed the pointer to that, probably only does that when you click on something or something is loading.

patat16, Please reject ViRoy's proposed answer as his proposed answer is exactly in the same meaning but less accurate than Bartsmit's.

Perhaps this is his another way to gain points from gaining other's advantage.

The practice of ViRoy is not the etiquette in EE. Please reject it.
