Outlook and sendmail

How can I allow Outlook Express to send eMail through sendmail (FreeBSD 3.3) by SMTP ?

Actually, I got the following error :

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'user@domain.com'. Subject 'TESTING', Account: 'mail.mydomain.com', Server: 'mail.mydomain.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 <user@domain.com>... Relaying denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

it's a generic SMTP message, you are sending mail to be relayed to a machine that has got relaying turned off (to avoid being used by spammers)

1. It's probably better to set the domain of the Outlook clients to match the domain of the server.

2. Otherwise build your sendmail.cf with this:

FEATURE(promiscuous_relay).

If you really want to forward all the spam on the net, this will turn off all checking for relaying.

Does "FEATURE(promiscuous_relay)" mean that I can send email through this server everywhere ?

Yes, but it also means that _anyone_ can use your server to relay mail. For example, if I wanted to spam 1,000,000 people from my system, I could connect to your server, deliver them to you and your system would deliver them for me. Your server would then be in the header for the messages.....
