Lotus Notes fulltext not searchable

We are using Notes 4.6 and the fulltext search feature does not seem to be working.  It does not want to search the attachments to the abstracts.  Any ideas why?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You need to make sure the database has an index created for it.  To do this, right click on the database icon, goto the Full Text tab and select "Create index"  To search the attachments, make sure the 'index attachments' tab is selected.

Although the answer was correct, and rapid, I guess I should have explained in my question that we already have created an index (with attachments).  We have even deleted and recreated it three times to no avail.

Any suggestions?

Do you have enough system resources?  This is a fairly resource intensive thing you are trying to do here.  So, not enough Ram or drive space will abort this real quick.

We have tons of space, so that isn't it.

How big are those attachments? and what kind of attachments are they?

jmhakzAuthor Commented:
They are not really all that large.  What we do here is scan in all paper documents we receive (letters, etc.) and save them in PDF (OCR'd) format and/or from copied from email and attach them to a "login" sheet.  These are our electronic files.

Can I be the only one who has no success with "indexed attachments"?  At least with the PDFs I've sampled, Notes seems to ignore them entirely in a full-text search.

Have you considered dumping the documents to a plain vanilla filesystem and using Adobe Catalog?

Even though we do not have it working the product we use Adobe Acrobat Capture SAYS in its promo lit that it works with Lotus Notes.  This is why we bought the product.  We need to use Notes and cannot just use a vanilla filesystem.

Hi jmhakz,

the text contenet of PDF is zipped in steams.
Only the first version was ascii structured whithout compression.

Domino R5 should solve this for you.

Sorry,

the answer in 4.6 is: you can not FullText search PDF without addon software.

Ok.  Thanks.

Now, any idea on what this addon software would be?  We are using Adboe Acrobat Capture.  In it's promo lit it stated that this could be done.  Any help would be appreciated.

You seem to be responding quicking so I assume you are in the EST time zone.

Merci.

If you have licensed version of Adobe Acrobat, then the customer support should be able to guide "how to..?". So contact the vendor about this problem.
