I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. just stick the startup command in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Or if you meant "how do i INSTALL" new service.

for squid, find a squid rpm

then do (as root) "rpm -Uvh squid-version-something.rpm"

then edit the config file in /etc/squid.conf
