"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

reinstall directX.

The reson you wont "find" it in sys.ini is that it isnt a program. It is an 'extension' called by another program. Anyway, reinstalling directX should fix it.

Then reinstall DirectX, then use control panel / remove program to remove directX.  You have obviously HAD directX installed. Otherwise you wouldnt get this error. The mentioned file is a core file for DirectX

this can also happen if you use patches / updates that has a different language then your operating system.

OR you could extract the non-directX version from your CD using the cab-files and the tool "expand"
