is it safe to have several browser windows open when i am on the internet

Theoretically, as Windows is a multitasking OS, you can do this.  However, I have run into problems with both Netscape and IE4 and 5 when viewing multiple Java based pages.  These problems occur more often with netscape but not exclusively.  As Dew mentioned, you should be able to do this but recognize that if you are getting errors from your browser while viewing multiple java based pages, that could be the problem.  Also, having more RAM in your system ( at least 64MB ) will definately help with this in addition to having a good NON-Winmodem.
