In my Outlook I have connected to my exchange server at work.

Whenever I connect, the items in my remote Inbox (from the exchange server) move to my local Inbox.

How do I prevent this from happening?

Choose Tools | Services, then switch to the Delivery tab. At the top, choose to deliver items to your mailbox, not to a Personal Folders file.
