Netscape hangs every time

I have a problem with Netscape Communicator 4.7 - 4.6. I can't get it to work for more than a few minutes. It crashes with an error message about a memory error with kernel32.dll (if I remember correctly). I used 4.7 at first and then I installed 4.6, but it doesn't work either. The reason I'm using Netscape is that I like it and I need the mail and newsgroups. And no, I won't use Outlook, since it spreads all the e-mail viruses...

My computer is AMD 450, 4.3 Gb + 15.2 Gb, Diamond Viper 770, SB Live! etc. If anyone has an answer I'd be grateful.
Thanks.

Antti, Try this,

Before installation of ver4.70. Uninstall the previous version of Netscape.

After that, install 4.70. Once you've started, you should have to make an initial profile for the first user.

If you have not set that up, go to the start-programs-Netscape communicator-Utilities -User Profile manager.

Click into this folder, click [Add] button to add new users (first and then later additional users ).

Within that user profile, a directory of that profile will be made including email account, cache directory , bookmarks folder etc.
Eg. profile for First User named as "Antti" has been created.

A "c:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\Antti" folder will be created.

Default cache directory for "Antti" will be set as :-
    \Users\Antti\archive
    \Users\Antti\Cache
    \Users\Antti\Mail
    \Users\Antti\News

You can setup another new users "Antti-2" by the User profile manager as described above.

The cache directory for Howard will be at his directory user folder. e.g.
    \Users\Antti-2\cache
    \Users\Antti-2\archive
    \Users\Antti-2\Mail
    \Users\Antti-2\news

If you would like to change the location, at preference, Advanced-Cache- [Choose folder], change the location.

Close any Netscape browser. Restart computer. Be Online again by Netscape Nevigator.
----------
It sounds the default in cache and archive folder pointing to the wrong path.

Ok. I'll try, but how could the cache crash the whole thing? Anyway, I'll try your suggestion soon. Thanks.

Sorry, It should be <<The cache directory for Howard >> for Antti-2

iceman, "cache" folder is used by Netscape which is the same as IE5 "Temporary Internet folder". If temporary files downloaded during online has misplaced causing that Netscape cannot find the right folder for caching, it will crash.

Yeah, I know what cache is, but I still can't believe it would crash. Anyway, I'll get on it as soon as I can.
 Thanks.

Ok it worked. Thanks. The whole problem seemes to be a bug in Netscape. I had set the cache directory to be on another harddisk, and N didn't like that at all... Thanks.
