"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I ended up using a script called install_sendmail to solve a similar problem...I can't be positive what it did that I didn't but it worked...It configures sendmail based on the way you answer some simplified questions...I don't know if it will help but you can locate it at freshmeat.net...Just be sure to back up your current config...

Well the correct solution is to use the virtualusers table.

The way to implement this with out using m4 configuration is
to put the following into the sendmail.cf:

# Virtual user table (maps incoming users)
Kvirtuser hash -o /etc/virtusertable

after that you create a virtusertable file and in it you set it up in the following way:

Sample Virtusertable

john@domaina.com      john_a
john@domainb.com      john_b

Then save and quit. After that type the following

makemap hash virtusertable < virtusertable

What happens is that virtusertable gets make in to a hash database. The file that gets created is virtusertable.db. that should be all their is to it.

BTW all the instructions above are assumed to be done in the /etc directory.
