Microsoft Fax through Windows 98

I understand that Microsoft Fax is no longer available in Windows 98.  I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what Fax software I should purchase so that I can have fax capability from my laptop.  I generally fax word documents.  I have priced WinFax Pro 9.0 and it costs in excess of $100.00.  I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for a good software package that might be a little less expensive.  Thanks!

The Microsoft Fax located on the WIN-98 Cd at the following location:

Win98cd:\tools\oldwin95\message\

can be run on any version of WIN-95 or WIN-98.  It is the original version of Microsoft Fax that was shipped with the retail WIN-95.  Have installed it many times on several systems with no difficulties.

mmj1,There is a simple fax software (which is designed for win95) in win98cdrom.
Go to the Win98cd:\tools\oldwin95\message\
either "intl" or "US".
There is "awfax.exe" and "wms.exe".

Please read wms-fax.txt before installation.

pslh,
I have located the file you are referring to and read the awfax.exe.txt file.  I have one question maybe you can answer.  This laptop was purchased with Windows 98 already loaded on.  It was not upgraded from Windows 95.  Can I still install the awfax.exe since it is not an upgrade?  Thanks for your time.

pslh,

Steal your comment?  I simply answered his question regarding whether the program will work with his win-98 since it was not an upgrade.

pslh,

If you want the points you can have them,  I certainly did not join this site to get anyone upset, My understanding is that this is a site of professional experts here to help each other out.  If answering someones question is considered stealing a comment, when the original comment did not answer the question then this site need to grow-up a little and I will continue to use my other tech services that are more professional in attitude.

Referring to mmj1's question:
<<any other suggestions for a good software package that might be a little less expensive.  >>

Okay, I posted my answer as a comment which did not mean it is not an right answer. I let this question to be unlocked so that more experts can come and participate and give more suggestions for mmj1 if there is other simple and cheaper software other than windows98's provided fax program, which is packed on his Win98cdrom.

When he asked me further question:
<<pslh, Can I still install the awfax.exe since it is not an upgrade? >>

"eldred" interrupted and said "YES!" And he posted it as his answer and has gained the advantage from other.

Is that your way of professionalism? By your response and acts, it is pretty sure you've made it.

If that is so, you may keep on your declared professional practice and collect all the previous comments including resolutions posted by other experts and put it up by your own name and gain the advantages.

Let's see as I've invited the Customer service of experts-exchange to have a look on this question!

I am fairly new to this site (third question I have posted) and I hope I didn't cause any problems.  When I was prompted to accept/reject the answer I accepted it.  If I should have done something else please let me know.  I think this is a great tool and I appreciate all of the help I am given here.   Pslh did answer my original question and after reading his response, I had an additional question.  Pslh, I would be more than happy to have you take 50 of my points for your helping me, if that's possible.  So, please let me know if I should be doing something differently when responding to the answers.  Thanks.

Guidance on using Experts Exchange from Community Support follows.

My general advice to experts on when to post an answer or comment is the following:
If you think the suggestion you are providing will solve the problem, then post it as an answer.  Be careful that the suggestion that you are providing is not one already posted as a comment.  If you want to agree with something someone else has suggested, make sure to post it as a comment.  If you are asking for additional information or clarification of the question, it should be posted as a comment.

mmj1,
For your future reference, when you go to grade a question, make sure that the proposed answer is by the expert you want to receive the points for your question.

If the proposed answer is not by the expert you want to receive the points, then choose the option below the question " 2.Reject xxx's proposed answer. Once you have rejected the proposed answer, you will get the option beside comments by other experts to Accept Comment as Answer.  You can then choose which comment you would like to accept.
