Jet 4.0 + DAO 3.6

I've 2 problems. On my computer is instaled MS Jet 3.51 and MS Jet 4.0.

1)
I'd like to use MS JET 4.0, bud I don't know how? By opening a database is Jet 3.51 used.

2)
MS JET 4.0 provides ROW-level locking. How can I use this feature with DAO 3.6?

Thank You!

Hi, I had the same problem.

So look at this.

1) DAO 3.6 automatically use JET 4.0. But DATA CONTROL use by default JET 3.5. How to use DATA CONTROL with JET 4.0 is described in Q238401.

2) DAO 3.6 cann't check RLL, but OLE DB (ADO) do.

3) JET has this feature: If first connection to some MDB use RLL, then all connections use RLL.

4) So if u want to use DAO and RLL u have to open MDB with ADO with RLL and then open this MDB with DAO. Now u can close ADO connection.

Assuming that you are using ADO, try the following:
Put this in a module:

Global adoCon As New ADODB.Connection
strdatabase = app.path & "\YourDBName.Extension"

adoCon.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=" & strDatabase
adoCon.Open

VB6 & VB5 works with DAO and JET 3.51.
Data Control can works only with JET 3.51
If you want to connect to JET 3.6 database ( Access 2000 ) in VB you have to use ADO ( It is possible with Microsoft ADO Data Conrol or Data Environment - VB6 )
You can also use DAO + Access 2000 ODBC Driver, but I think ADO is better way.

to use DAO4.0:

'in old version of dao you had to:
'dim db as database
'in 4.0 you have to
Dim Db as DAO.DATABASE
dim rs as recordset

this should work no problem
