Long name of an application

My app is pulling a list of all the exe's on a PC for auditing purposes.  How can I pull the actual name of the application from an application's exe (e.g. if the exe is qaudit.exe I want to pull the name it displays to the user of 'Quick Audit')?

You could go through the start menu, enumerate all shellLinks and look if you find something...

You could try reading the versioninfo for the executable in question. No guarantee that the developers have actually used the "Long name" as application name, though. Take a look at the GetFileVersionInfo API for the parameters.

Good luck!!

I did some more research into GetFileVersionInfo and found how to use it and VerQueryValue to pull the information that I'm looking for.  Not all (in fact very few) of the apps actually have that information stored with them.

I'll give DrDelphi the points as he was the closest and I don't want this question hanging around out there.

Thanks.
